There are many factors that affect this change of route, including mismanaged expectations, and lack of support for various issues such as culture shock and language barrier. We take an in-depth look into one case study. Kamal is a student from Nepal who is moving to Australia to study at a university. He has high hopes about how his new life will be like: new friends, and exciting travel opportunities. But upon arriving, Kamal finds out it’s not at all like what he expected. The experience ends up leaving him feeling deflated and discouraged to continue his studies. Certainly, there are ways to prevent international students like Kamal from missing out on a life-changing opportunity. At the end of his case study, we compile a few ideas from international students that can help alleviate these issues.
